Do Not Let Akismet Work Alone
Thanks to WordPress, we do not have to manually deal with spam as Automattic Kismet (Akismet) is doing an excellent job for us. This effective triage of free WordPress plugins has served many WordPressbloggers well, eliminating virtually 99% of all automated comment-related spam.
Akismet continues to be one of the most popular comment spam fighting tools around. One of the most important reasons why Akismet continues to be the most popular and successful is that is a team effort. While Akismet is battling the spam armies aggressively, there are chances that it may slip its hand and there resides spam in form of trackback, pingback or contact form. The worst is what if Akismet goes off-line or suddenly stop working? Why let Akismet does the work alone?
A helping hand is useful to fight against spam. Here goes “Bad Behavior” and/or “Spam Karma 2″ to the rescue.
Bad Behavior
It is completely different from Akismet, in that it doesn’t specifically target spam itself. Rather, it targets the methods by which the spam is delivered. Bad Behavior is designed to work alongside existing spam prevention services to increase their effectiveness and efficiency.Whenever possible, you should run it in combination with a more traditional spam prevention service. Assuming you are using WordPress platform, having Akismet and Bad Behavior as a team surely going to help you a lot.
Spam Karma 2
Also known as SK2 (not the make-up thingy) is an anti-spam plugin for the WordPress blogging platform. It is meant to stop all forms of automated Blog spam effortlessly, while remaining as unobtrusive as possible to regular commentators. Spam Karma 2 is the proud successor to Spam Karma, with whom it shares most of the development ideas, but absolutely none of the code.
Both plugins are easy to install and configure. Give them a try. It is your blog that you are trying to protect after all.
